Well the most convenient way is to right-click the image you want to use and then select Save Image As from that menu to save it as a file on your computer. From there, certain sites (Bronyland included) allow you to upload an avatar (this depends on the site, but it’s usually found around edit profile pages). You can just choose to upload that as your avatar there! Or use it for MSN, AIM, etc.
You may also be able to link to the avatar directly by right-clicking it and selecting Copy Image URL (or something similar; the wording depends on your browser) and use it through that means.

You could try saving the whole page by doing File -> Save Page As (or the equivalent) and then saving it from there. Make sure it is a complete HTML page. That should put all of the images used on the site inside of a folder somewhere.
